Chamaemelum nobile
Roman chamomile, also listed as Anthemis nobilis, is a low spreading evergreen perennial reaching 3 to 12 inches tall in a mat of finely divided, soft, apple-scented bright green foliage. It grows in full sun to light shade with moderate water and good drainage, tolerating light foot traffic and often used as a fragrant lawn alternative. Small white daisy flowers with yellow centers appear in summer, and non-flowering selections such as ‘Treneague’ stay denser as turf. Use it as an aromatic groundcover, between stepping stones, along path edges, and in herb and sensory plantings.
