Dymondia

Dymondia margaretae

Dymondia, or silver carpet, is a tough, flat-growing evergreen perennial that forms a dense mat barely an inch tall and spreads slowly by rooting stems, with narrow gray-green leaves that curl to show silvery white undersides. It needs full sun to light shade and is very drought tolerant once established, requiring excellent drainage and tolerating moderate foot traffic and coastal exposure. Small yellow daisy flowers sit nearly flush with the foliage in the warm months. Use it as a durable lawn substitute, between pavers and stepping stones, in parkways, and for low-water flatwork.
