Duchesnea indica
A fast-spreading, low evergreen to semi-evergreen groundcover that roots at the nodes and stays roughly 2 to 6 inches tall while running widely by runners. It grows in partial shade to shade and accepts full sun with adequate moisture, preferring regular to moderate water. Small yellow flowers appear through the warm season, followed by ornamental but bland red strawberry-like fruit held above three-part leaves. Use it as a tough filler under trees, on shaded slopes for erosion control, and in informal areas where quick coverage is wanted, keeping in mind its vigorous, spreading habit.
