thymuc coccineus aka creeping red thyme

Red Creeping Thyme

Thymus praecox ‘Coccineus’

A flat, mat-forming evergreen groundcover thyme growing only two to three inches tall and spreading twelve to eighteen inches wide, with tiny dark-green aromatic leaves that hug the ground. It needs full sun and well-drained soil, taking moderate to low water once established and tolerating light to moderate foot traffic. Dense magenta to crimson flowers blanket the mat in late spring and early summer, drawing bees and other pollinators. Specify it for filling between pavers and stepping stones, edging, small-scale groundcover, and low-water plantings where a fragrant, flowering carpet is wanted.
