Achillea millefolium - Common Yarrow

Common Yarrow

Achillea millefolium

A tough, spreading perennial with soft, finely divided fernlike foliage forming a low mat one to two feet tall, with flower stems rising above it. It grows in full sun on a wide range of soils, tolerating drought, heat, and lean conditions while accepting occasional water for fuller growth. Flat-topped clusters of small white flowers appear from late spring into summer, attracting beneficial insects and pollinators, and the plant tolerates light foot traffic and mowing as a meadow or lawn alternative. Use it for low-water meadows, erosion control on slopes, habitat borders, and as a durable groundcover in difficult sites.
