Artemisia californica
An aromatic, soft-textured evergreen California native subshrub growing 2 to 4 feet tall and wide, with finely divided, threadlike gray-green foliage that releases a strong sage scent. It thrives in full sun with excellent drainage, is highly drought tolerant once established, and prefers little summer water. A foundation species of coastal sage scrub, it is well suited to slopes, erosion control, habitat and restoration plantings, and dry, low-water gardens where its fine foliage provides year-round texture.
