Coyote Bush

Coyote Bush

Baccharis pilularis

A tough, evergreen California native shrub; prostrate selections form dense groundcover mats 1 to 2 feet tall and spreading several feet wide, while the species can grow into a mounding shrub. It takes full sun, tolerates poor soils, wind, and coastal conditions, and is very drought tolerant once established, accepting little to no summer water. Valued for slope stabilization, fire-resistant landscapes, erosion control, and habitat plantings, it is dioecious; female plants produce fluffy seed and male plants are often preferred to avoid litter.
