Ceanothus ‘Joyce Coulter’
Often listed as ‘Joyce Cutler,’ this selection is correctly Ceanothus ‘Joyce Coulter,’ a mounding, spreading evergreen shrub that grows about 2 to 5 feet tall and spreads 8 to 12 feet wide. It bears medium blue flower clusters in spring against small, dark green, glossy foliage and is a strong pollinator draw. It prefers full sun, tolerates a range of soils better than many ceanothus, and is drought tolerant once established with little summer water. Use it as a large-scale bank and slope cover, low informal screen, or massed low-water groundcover where its broad spreading habit can fill space.
