Quercus agrifolia
Coast live oak is an evergreen oak growing thirty to seventy feet tall with a dense, rounded, spreading canopy and small, holly like, leathery dark green leaves. It thrives in full sun in coastal and inland settings, tolerates a range of soils, and is drought tolerant once established; avoid frequent summer irrigation near the trunk and root zone. It is a keystone habitat tree, supporting numerous birds, insects, and mammals with its acorns and structure. Use it as a long lived evergreen shade and specimen tree, for screening, and in oak woodland restoration across coastal California.
