Salvia clevelandii ‘Winnifred Gilman’
This refined Cleveland sage selection is a compact evergreen shrub, typically 3 to 4 feet tall and wide, with intensely aromatic, gray-green foliage prized for its fragrance. It requires full sun, sharp drainage, and low water once established, thriving in hot, dry inland and coastal sites. In late spring and summer it produces striking tiered whorls of deep violet-blue flowers held on dark stems, drawing bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. Use it in low-water borders, pollinator and habitat gardens, and dry slopes where its tidier size and vivid bloom outperform the straight species.
