Bouteloua gracilis
A fine-textured, warm-season bunchgrass growing in tidy clumps roughly 10 to 18 inches tall, with distinctive horizontal, eyebrow-shaped seed heads held above the foliage in summer. It thrives in full sun, is highly drought tolerant once established, and performs best with low water and well-drained soil, going dormant and tan in cold weather. Use it in low-water meadows, mass plantings, naturalistic borders, and as an ornamental or mowable lawn substitute; the seed heads add strong textural and habitat interest.
