Mimulus aurantiacus
Bush monkeyflower, also placed in Diplacus, is a variable evergreen to semi-evergreen subshrub generally 2 to 4 feet tall and wide, with narrow, glossy green, resinous leaves. From spring through summer it carries an abundance of tubular two-lipped flowers ranging from soft orange and apricot to gold, much loved by hummingbirds and native bees. It thrives in full sun to part shade with fast drainage and low summer water once established, and benefits from light pruning to keep it dense. Use it on dry slopes, in borders and rock gardens, and throughout coastal and chaparral habitat and low-water native landscapes.
