Ceanothus ‘Concha’
‘Concha’ is one of the most reliable and widely planted California lilacs, a dense, rounded evergreen shrub reaching 6 to 8 feet tall and as wide, with small, narrow, dark green leaves on arching branches. Reddish flower buds open to a profusion of deep cobalt blue flowers in mid to late spring, creating a strong display that bees and butterflies favor. It performs best in full sun with good drainage, is notably drought tolerant once established, and tolerates a wider range of conditions than many in the genus. Specify it as a flowering screen, slope and bank cover, foundation mass, or habitat and low-water shrub.
