Corsican Mint

Mentha requienii

Corsican Mint is a delicate, very low creeping perennial forming a fine emerald mat under an inch tall that releases a strong peppermint fragrance when brushed or stepped on. It prefers partial shade to filtered sun and consistently moist, well-drained soil, struggling in hot dry exposures and going partly deciduous in cold winters. Tiny pale lavender flowers dot the foliage in summer. Use it between stepping stones and pavers in lightly trafficked, moisture-retentive areas, along shaded path edges, and in rock garden crevices where its scent can be enjoyed.
