Dichondra micrantha
Dichondra is a low, creeping groundcover that spreads by rooting stems to form a dense mat generally under 2 inches tall, with small, round, kidney-shaped bright green leaves. It performs best in part shade to full sun with regular water and well-drained soil, and tolerates light foot traffic, making it a lawn substitute in small areas. It is frost tender and grows as a warm-season cover in mild Southern California conditions. Use it as a soft green carpet between stepping stones, in parkways, and for filling shaded ground where a fine-textured living surface is wanted.
