Ophiopogon japonicus ‘Nana’
Dwarf mondo grass is a clump-forming, grasslike evergreen perennial growing only 2 to 4 inches tall and slowly spreading by stolons into a fine-textured turf of arching dark green leaves. Small lilac to white flowers appear in summer, largely hidden in the foliage, and may be followed by blue-black berries. It tolerates full sun to deep shade, prefers moist well-drained soil, and accepts moderate water; once established it endures occasional dry spells. Use it as a no-mow groundcover, a lawn alternative for low-traffic areas, edging along paths and borders, and infill between stepping stones, particularly in shaded settings.
