Gray Lavender Cotton (Santolina chamaecyparissus 'Gray') (Santolina chamaecyparissus 'Gray')

Gray Lavender Cotton (Santolina chamaecyparissus ‘Gray’)

Santolina chamaecyparissus ‘Gray’

An evergreen Mediterranean subshrub forming a tidy mound one to two feet tall and slightly wider, prized for its finely divided, aromatic silvery-gray foliage. It requires full sun and fast-draining soil, is very drought tolerant once established, and thrives in hot, dry, and lean conditions. Button-like bright yellow flowers rise above the foliage in summer and can be sheared off to keep the form compact. Use it for low water-wise borders and edging, dry slopes, rock gardens, and as a silver-foliage contrast in Mediterranean and fire-conscious plantings.
