Festuca ovina
Sheep fescue is a fine-textured, clump-forming cool-season ornamental grass growing roughly 6 to 12 inches tall and wide, forming neat tufts of narrow blue-green to green needlelike blades. Slender flowering plumes rise above the foliage in late spring to summer, and the mounding habit holds its form through the season. It thrives in full sun, prefers well-drained soil, and is notably drought tolerant once established, asking little water. Use it for mass plantings, erosion control on slopes and banks, low-water meadow and border plantings, and as a tough, low-maintenance grassy groundcover.
