Santolina virens
A compact, mounding evergreen subshrub reaching roughly 1 to 2 feet tall and slightly wider, with fine, thread-like deep green foliage. It thrives in full sun and lean, well-drained soil with low water, and tolerates heat, drought, and coastal conditions once established. Button-like yellow flowers rise above the foliage in summer, and the plant responds well to shearing for a tidy form. Use it for low borders and edging, knot gardens, rock gardens, fire-wise plantings, and water-conserving Mediterranean-style designs.
