Sagina subulata
A compact, mat-forming evergreen perennial that grows just 1 to 2 inches tall, prized for its emerald-green, moss-like cushion of fine foliage. It does best in partial shade to full sun in mild coastal climates, with regular, even moisture and well-drained soil to keep the mat lush. Small white star-shaped flowers appear scattered across the surface in spring and summer. Use it to fill gaps between stepping stones and flagstone, as a fine-textured groundcover or small lawn alternative in light-traffic settings, and in rock gardens, borders, and containers.
