Polygonum
A vigorous, low, spreading perennial groundcover that forms a dense mat of slender wiry stems and small lance-shaped leaves, typically reaching only a few inches tall while creeping widely to knit soil together. It is adaptable and tough, taking full sun to partial shade with low to moderate water once established. Tiny pink to white flowers are carried along the stems through the warm season, adding fine texture. Use it for rapid erosion control on slopes and banks, between pavers and stepping stones, as a durable filler in difficult sites, and as a low groundcover where a fast-knitting mat is needed.
