Santolina chamaecyparissus
A compact evergreen subshrub reaching about 1 to 2 feet tall and slightly wider, prized for its finely divided, aromatic silver-gray foliage that forms a dense rounded mound. It performs best in full sun with sharp drainage and is highly drought tolerant once established, handling heat, lean soils, and coastal conditions. Small button-like bright yellow flowers appear on stalks in summer, though many specifiers shear it for foliage effect and tidy form.
