Lavender Cotton

Santolina chamaecyparissus

A compact evergreen subshrub reaching about 1 to 2 feet tall and slightly wider, prized for its finely divided, aromatic silver-gray foliage that forms a dense rounded mound. It performs best in full sun with sharp drainage and is highly drought tolerant once established, handling heat, lean soils, and coastal conditions. Small button-like bright yellow flowers appear on stalks in summer, though many specifiers shear it for foliage effect and tidy form. Good for low hedges, knot gardens, dry borders, slopes, and Mediterranean or low-water palettes.
