Panakenake (Pratia angulata)

Pratia angulata

A creeping, mat-forming perennial that hugs the ground at one to two inches tall and spreads steadily by rooting stems to form a fine green carpet. It prefers partial shade to filtered sun in warmer climates, full sun in cooler coastal settings, and wants consistent moisture in well-drained soil. Small white star-shaped flowers stud the foliage through the warm months, often followed by small reddish-purple berries. Use it as a soft filler between stepping stones and pavers, as a small-scale lawn substitute for light foot traffic, and along shaded borders and pathways.
