Ceanothus gloriosus
Point Reyes ceanothus is a low, spreading evergreen groundcover native to the coastal bluffs of Northern California, typically reaching only 1 to 1.5 feet high while spreading 6 to 12 feet wide, rooting as it trails. Its thick, leathery, holly-like dark green leaves form a dense mat, and clusters of light to deep blue flowers appear in spring. It thrives in full sun to light shade and tolerates coastal conditions, poor soils, and drought once established. Specify it for slope stabilization, erosion control, bank cover, and low-water groundcover plantings, especially in coastal and near-coastal landscapes.
