Arenaria verna
A dense, low mat-forming perennial reaching only about 1 to 2 inches tall and spreading 12 inches or more, with fine, moss-textured emerald green foliage. It performs best in full sun to light shade with regular, even moisture and good drainage, and it dislikes prolonged drought or standing water. Tiny white star-shaped flowers dot the surface in spring and early summer above the cushion-like growth. Use it as a small-scale lawn substitute, a filler between flagstones and pavers, soft edging along paths, and ground-level texture in rock gardens and miniature plantings.
