Siskiyou Lewisia

Siskiyou Lewisia

Lewisia cotyledon

An evergreen perennial native to the Siskiyou region forming a tight basal rosette of thick, fleshy, spoon-shaped leaves about 6 to 10 inches across, anchored by a deep taproot. In spring and early summer it sends up branched stems bearing clusters of candy-striped flowers in shades of pink, apricot, orange, yellow, and white. It demands excellent drainage and dislikes crown moisture, so it performs best in gritty soil, rock crevices, raised beds, and troughs in full sun to light shade with moderate, careful watering. Use it as a specialty accent in rock gardens, alpine plantings, and container compositions.
