Thymus praecox
Mother of thyme is a vigorous, low-spreading evergreen groundcover reaching about 2 to 4 inches tall and spreading 12 to 18 inches wide, forming a fragrant aromatic mat of small dark green leaves. Clusters of rose to purplish-pink flowers cover the planting in late spring and early summer and are highly attractive to bees. It performs best in full sun with sharp drainage and is drought tolerant once established, handling light to moderate foot traffic. Specify it for lawn substitutes, paving joints, slope stabilization, border edging, and pollinator-friendly low-water plantings.
