Thymus pseudolanuginosus
A very low, ground-hugging evergreen thyme forming a soft gray-green mat one to three inches tall and spreading twelve to eighteen inches wide, with tiny fuzzy, silvery, woolly leaves. It requires full sun and sharply drained soil, taking low to moderate water once established and tolerating light foot traffic. Sparse pale pink flowers appear in summer, but this thyme is grown chiefly for its dense woolly silver-green texture rather than bloom. Use it between pavers and flagstones, over rock gardens, along edges, and as a fine-textured low-water groundcover where a tactile silvery mat is desired.
